2026 JMU Annual Report of Out-of-State Placements (for Calendar Year 2025)
JMU participates in the State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (SARA). This allows us (in most circumstances) to place students in field placements, internships, etc. in states or U.S. territories outside of Virginia without seeking permission from those states.
Per our agreement, we must report the total number of for-credit out-of-state learning placements that occurred in the previous calendar year by CIP code and state/territory in which the placement occurred.
What is an Out-of-State Placement?
An Out-of-State Placement is one in which the student is physically located outside of Virginia. Note that
virtual placements are not considered out-of-state placements
, regardless of where the student is located.
What is reported?
Placements are reported by 2-digit CIP code
(e.g., 51 is the 2-digit CIP code for "health professions and related clinical sciences") and the state/territory in which the placement occurred. The assumption is that all of your placements were under the same 2-digit CIP code so you will report that only once.
If you used more than one CIP code for placements in 2025
and/or you have
more than 20 groups of placements
to report
,
you
will be directed to a
spreadsheet
that you can download and use to report the data.
