What is Make Your Mark On Madison?
MYMOM is a 10-week leadership development program focused around the values of self-authorship and vulnerability. It is offered solely in the Fall semester and is tailored to help all JMU undergraduate students build genuine connections with others, tap into their interests, find their sense of belonging on campus, become more self-aware, and emphasize their innate ability to make an impact on JMU and beyond. Coined as a “springboard into authentic involvement at JMU,” MYMOM provides student applicants with insight into values, diversity, effective communication necessary for positive involvement, leadership skills & knowledge applicable to college, professional lives, and beyond, and close interaction with upperclassmen.
What is it like being a MYMOM Participant?
You will be placed into a council and attend weekly programs on Monday nights from 7 PM - 9 PM. The two-hour time frame will be broken up into two sections:
7:00 PM - 8:00 PM - Presentation from a guest speaker that discusses a topic that will benefit
your leadership development.
8:00 PM - 9:00 PM - Council Time
Council Time is where your Leadership Counselors will guide you through engaging conversations, reflections, and activities that help you process the information you learned during the first half of the night (the presentation) and further connect with your fellow council members and other participants around you.
For more information on what the program looks like as a participant, please visit our
MYMOM Page or read this
article about MYMOM!
If you would like to experience this, we encourage you to come out to our "MYMOM Mock Mondays” on August 29th & September 5th in Godwin Hall 338 from 7-8 PM. The format of the night will somewhat follow that of the schedule detailed above, but will be focused more on explaining MYMOM and activities.
Monday night programming will begin on Monday, September 26 and will continue every Monday night from 7-9 PM until Monday, December 5 (with the exception of JMU-scheduled breaks).
If you have further questions, please feel free to email mymom@jmu.edu. Please do not hesitate to reach out! We look forward to seeing you in the MYMOM realm!
