Description:
This is a state-wide leadership role. I’m Determined State Youth and Family Leaders travel throughout Virginia to educate and share their stories and experiences with other youth, educators and families about self-determination. I’m Determined State Youth and Family Leaders are expected to demonstrate leadership skills at scheduled events and in their communities. Becoming a State Youth and Family Leader means that there is a wish to take on greater responsibility in sharing and educating others about the I’m Determined values and self-determination.
I'm Determined State Youth Leader TRACK Agreement
All I’m Determined State Youth Leaders make their best effort to uphold these responsibilities.

 
Team-Oriented:
State Youth Leaders become followers and leaders as appropriate and support each other for a common goal. They are able to give and accept constructive feedback. State Youth Leaders try to be aware of each other’s strengths and needs in order to work together appropriately. They respect and value each other so that each person can be their best self.

 
Responsiveness:
State Youth Leaders show responsiveness to phone, email, and face-to-face communication. They are proactive by asking questions, letting others know things ahead of time, and doing whatever is necessary to be prepared. Communication is timely and respectful.

 
Attendance:
State Youth Leaders prioritize and attend designated meetings and I’m Determined events. If not able to attend, State Youth Leaders notify the designated organizer or staff member as soon as possible or by the given deadline. At events, State Youth Leaders prepare themselves to be awake, aware, and attentive so they can effectively respond to what is happening around them.

 
Career/College Oriented:
State Youth Leaders are constantly setting goals and carrying out plans to improve their quality of life whether they are in school, in a career, or at home. State Youth Leaders exemplify leaders in their community. Community is school, college, church, work, and other organizations that are a consistent part of a State Youth Leader's life.

 
Kindness:
State Youth Leaders lead with kindness. They show positive attitudes through words, body language, emotions, and actions. They show kindness to themselves by balancing the amount of I'm Determined consulting work they say yes to in relation to what is going on in their day-to-day lives.

 
In applying to be an I’m Determined State Youth Leader, I feel confident that I can agree to uphold the responsibilities stated above for the TRACK agreement.

All I’m Determined State Family Leaders make their best effort to uphold these responsibilities.

 
Guide:
Act as a guide, providing direction and support. Help the State Youth Leader navigate challenges, set goals, and make informed decisions.

 
Understand:
Know that empathy is essential. Seek to understand the unique needs, experiences and aspirations of their State Youth Leader. Listen actively, so they can offer meaningful support.

 
Inspire:
Encourage the State Youth Leader to reach their full potential. Inspire confidence, resilience, and a positive mindset. Celebrate their achievements and motivate them to overcome obstacles.

 
Develop:
Support growth and development. Support the State Youth Leader as they acquire and increase their competence, autonomy, and relatedness skills. Are willing to provide opportunities to practice these self-determination skills and encourage continuous learning and personal improvement.

 
Empower:
Empower State Youth Leaders to take ownership of their journey. Provide resources, opportunities, and encouragement.
