Thank you for your interest in serving as a Chair for the Student Affairs Professionals Community and Professional Development (SAPRos) Team. The SAPros mission is to create opportunities for community building, personal growth, and professional development. We aim to have every Student Affairs Professional engaged in meaningful connections that contribute to a sense of belonging and encourage continued learning to strengthen the division of Student Affairs. 

The group oversees and/or provides feedback for division-wide projects and initiatives. Areas of focus include recognition and awards, new staff orientation and onboarding, search process support (hosting candidates, tours, and connections) exit processes, professional development, community building, and self-care. 

SAPros serves all current JMU Student Affairs Professionals. This includes classified, A&P, wage, and graduate assistants. 

SAPros is committed to having representation (at least one chair) from each of these various subgroups: administrative professional, seasoned (5 years or more) professional, new (5 years or fewer) professional, staff member with supervision responsibilities, graduate student, and a staff member with guardian/parental experience. Team is led by at least one representative from the Vice President for Student Affairs Office.  

Chairs serve a full year term spanning from June to the following July. We allow for one month overlap for transition of role. 

General membership with SAPRos expectations are as follows:
-Attend biweekly leadership planning meetings (Thursdays from 11:30-1pm)
-Participate in and contribute to conversation regarding division-wide initiatives 
-Respond in a timely manner to communication with SAPros Coordinators and team 
-Maintain records and notes for Chair position
-Support SAPros Team in programming
